THE PARKLAND CROSS COUNTRY SKI CLUB
GENERAL MEETING
December 12, 2006

MINUTES

Don Wales called the meeting to order at 7:45

1. REPORTS:

President:
Don welcomed all members and briefly introduced the purpose of the club and a few of the clubs activities for new members.

Treasurer:
Claude presented his Treasurer’s report and reported that we have $655.00 in our general fund and approximately 80 members. Claude also reported that the club received a cheque for $3000.00 from the city for track setting. These funds minus the cost of snowmobile insurance were forward to Mark. The club also received $500.00 from DOW in support of the SAT phone.

Claude encouraged members to pick up membership cards from him which are good for 5% off at Valhalla and 10% off at the Norseman in Calgary.

Vice President:
Mike reported that courses are going well – 17 people attended a map and compass course and 6 attended the Avalanche Transceiver course. A GPS course was also held. Mike outlined upcoming courses and encouraged interested members to sign up at the back.

Social Committee:
No report.

Newsletter:
Terry announced that MIGlobal and David Miller have agreed to sponsor the printing of our monthly newsletter and gave them a sincere thank-you. He encouraged members to submit pictures in JPEG form and also reported he would be happy to accept cartoon submissions – especially ones that would irritate Don.

Webmaster:
Nothing to report.

Day Tour/Lessons:
John reported that a day trip was held on Dec 10 ( 3 members attended). He outlined day trips scheduled for December 27 (Mike- College trails) and Jan 10 (Don-Jarvis Bay) and encouraged members to come out for them. Members are encouraged to meet the trip leader in the West NW corner of the Rec Centre parking lot at 1 pm on the day of the trip.

Ski lessons will be held in January. Information can be found in the winter City Guide or members can contact John for more information.
Publicity:
No report.

Mountain Tour Chair:
Absent. Trips scheduled for Chester Lake, Kananaskis and Kilmorey Lodge were highlighted.


BUSINESS:

1. Red Deer Loppet:

The Loppet will be held on February 3rd, 2007. It is an open race that is sponsored by the club. Members are needed to help in various capacities. A sign up sheet was circulated.

2. Notice of Motion

In order to allow the transfer of signing authorities for both the Mountain Tour Account and the General Club account, it was moved by Mike Spencer and seconded by Terry Ferster that

The club accept the changes in the following positions: Steve Davies will take over the Mountain Tour Chairman position previously held by Mike Spencer and Claude Sam will take over the position of Treasurer previously held by Jenni Duke

3. Bob Johnston memorial bench

Don thanked member for their donations – enough money was collected for a plaque on the bench as well as a small plaque for the Loppet.

4. Next meeting:

Our next meeting will highlight Food Preparation. Volunteer were encouraged to bring recipes, tips and ideas to the meeting that will be held January 9, 2007



Meeting Adjourned – members encouraged to ski or walk over to Mackenzie Trail shelter for the annual Wolf Howl social.
